Publishing standards

Editorial Policy

Our standards for usefulness, accuracy, sourcing, imagery, tools, and keeping articles up to date.

Last updated

1. Usefulness first

Every article should answer a specific, practical question. We do not publish thin keyword pages, scraped text, or filler. Where it helps, guides give concrete numbers (clearances, depths, timings) so readers can act on them.

2. Accuracy and honest attribution

  • No fabricated credentials or reviews. We do not invent author personas, testing labs, customer testimonials, or product ratings.
  • Named bylines. Articles are attributed to a named editorial desk or to a real person. Desk bylines are labelled as team bylines.
  • Where figures come from. Dimensions and care instructions should reflect widely published guidance or the manufacturer's own instructions. Readers should always follow the label and local building rules where they differ from a general guide.
  • Safety boundaries. Articles that touch electrical, gas, plumbing, structural, chemical, or animal-health topics say when to stop and call a licensed professional or veterinarian.

3. Editorial responsibility and tools

An editor is responsible for everything we publish. Drafting, editing, diagramming, and image tools, including software-based writing assistance, may be used to prepare an article. Whatever tools are involved, content is checked by a person before it is marked published, and drafts are never made public.

4. Images, diagrams, and advertising

Photographs and diagrams are chosen or created to clarify the topic and carry descriptive alt text and captions. This site does not currently show advertising. If that changes, ads will be clearly labelled Advertisement and kept separate from editorial text.

5. Updates and corrections

We update articles when information changes and show an Updated date only for real changes. See our corrections policy for how to report an error.
